Reports to: Sr. Pastor and Administrative Council
ROLE:
As a spiritual overseer, the Youth Coordinator shall exhibit a life that has been changed by Christ (John 13:34-35; Galatians 5:13, 22-23; Ephesians 4:2-3; Philippians 4:9), and be in good standing with the Church.
- Leading a vibrant youth ministry (i.e. Middle School and High School) that fosters Biblical knowledge, a personal relationship with Christ, Christian character formation, sharing about their faith and works of service
- Engaging the youth in a variety of Christ-centered activities and learning opportunities
- Modeling a personal lifestyle that conforms to solid Biblical principles.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- LEADERSHIP-Plans and leads age-appropriate programs, activities and educational endeavors for middle school and senior high students
- SPIRITUAL CARE- Provides spiritual care as needed and appropriate for the youth, maintains confidentiality, and refers individuals to professional counselors as appropriate
- TEACHING-Creates a learning environment that provides safety, caring and validation where biblical truths are taught and applied to life
- OUTREACH-Plans an annual retreat/missionary outreach for the youth to encourage them and help them grow in their faith
- RECRUITMENT-Recruits volunteers to support the youth program and recruits youth to be involved in church activities
- COMMUNITY- Builds relationships within and outside of the church, connecting to the community for the purpose of growing Christ’s church
- MEETINGS-Participates as directed in Administrative Council meetings, writing a monthly report for those meetings, and from time to time, attends various planning meetings
- MODELING-Participates in most church sponsored events where youth are included
- COMMUNICATION-Proactively provides informational updates to all stakeholders
- CONTINUING EDUCATION-Enhances personal and professional skills and knowledge base through continuing education
- OTHER-Other duties as assigned that fall within the Church Bylaws, policies and procedures.
REQUIREMENTS:
- A grasp and understanding of the centrality of Jesus Christ as our Model for living life along with an ability to apply biblical truths to daily life
- Prior experience working with youth
- A strong commitment to the Bible as the inspired Word of God and to Jesus Christ as the only way of salvation
- Agreement with the mission, values, beliefs, and purpose of Spirit of Faith Church
- Member in good standing of Spirit of Faith Church or willing to become one in a reasonable amount of time, as mutually agreed upon
- If driving to conduct Spirit of Faith business, incumbent must have valid driver’s license in good standing with the State.
A strong candidate will possess:
- Post-secondary education in theology, biblical studies, youth ministry, religious studies or a related line of study.
- Leadership skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to relate well to youth of diverse backgrounds, ages and life situations
- Ability to build and nurture relationships
- Ability to communicate well with the parents of all youth who participate in the youth programs
- Effective initiating, planning and organizational skills
- Ability to make decisions, problem-solve and exercise sound judgment
- Familiarity with social media
- Familiarity with ideologies affecting today’s youth
- Basic administrative and computer skills.
